This year we spent our skiing vacation in St. Moritz. We stayed at
Kempinski Grand Hôtel des Bains ***** (read about it below).
St. Moritz is a high Alpine luxury resort in the Engadine in Switzerland, at an elevation of about 1,800 metres (5,910 ft) above sea level.
St. Moritz lies on the southern slopes of the Albula Alps below the Piz Nair (3,056 m (10,026 ft)) overlooking an astoninglishly flat and quite wide valley with a lake of its own name at its feet: Lej da San Murezzan(Romansh for Lake of St. Moritz). It hosted the Winter Olympics in 1928 and 1948.
St. Moritz is a popular destination for the upper class and international jetset. It is also regarded as the most expensive ski resort in the world, with many luxurious five star hotels and upscale shops.
So did I like it? Sure, it was nice, but I didn’t get the vibe that it is this cozy nice place to go to walk around. I didn’t like the apres-ski, but we only spent it near our hotel. Also I didn’t think that the mountains are good enough, meaning that there was not much variety, you could go to other mountains, but then you’d had to take a bus to get there. I actually preferred Val d’Isere more. But don’t get me wrong, there was nothing bad about it. I think I’d go there if I had a family or a big group of people with me.
How to get there? Well, we took a train from Zurich airport and I have to say that it was so exhausting. The time to get to St. Moritz was 3,45 hours, which was so annoying. The tickets were quite expensive and we had to change the trains 3 times. I would definitely rent a car from the airport to get there the next time, I’d never take a train again to go to St. Moritz from Zurich airport.
